Spindles United's biggest year yet gets off on the right foot with a 5-1 victory on opening night.

It was a perfect evening for Nott Road footy, despite the lack of stadium lighting.

Spindles welcomed CDSL Newcomers Ligon FC with a dominant scoring and possession match.

The Spins opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes.

Picking up right where he left off in last season's semi-final, Luke Geczy got in behind Ligon's defense from a deep threaded pass by Ali Aladlouni. A couple of touches before he slotted it home to the bottom corner. 1 -0, 8'.

Spindles continued to create chances.

Ian Maguire sent wingback Ty Plumley in behind the defense before Plumley touched it around the keeper and put it away—Plumleys first Spindles goal, joining as a new player this season. 2-0, 25'.

Before the break, a mess in the box left Zeidane Ajdei with time and space to put away his first of the season. 3-0, 35'.

Pumped up from a dominant first half, the Spins came out in the second half creating more chances.

Joe Piperata, Russell Sage midfielder who returns to Spindles for the first time since 2022 decided to let one fly from 30 yards.

An unfortunate error from the keeper saw the ball slip into the net. 4-0, 65'.

Despite Spindle's high possession, Ligon did not give up as they continued to look for their opening goal.

A scarp in the box led to Ligon's first goal. 4-1, 73'.

As they looked for a late miracle, that was quickly shut down by a backheel flick by Ammar Singaporewala to put Adjei one-on-one with the keeper. Burying it home. 5-1, 85'.

Adjei would later be named The New Scotland Spirits Man of the Match for his 2 goals and 1 assist.

A great turnout for opening night, with more than 60 supporters showing out.

This win is surely the start Spindles was hoping for as they look to stay undefeated against Highlanders, next week at 8 PM. See you all there.
