The White Kit Debut Doesn’t Quite Go to Plan

Highlanders 2 - 1 Spindles

85' - John Locicero (P)

Matchweek 2 was a special one for the club, as Spindles debuted the new White Away Kit by Icarus.

However, the beauty of the kits was not enough to prevent an ugly result for the Spins.

Spindles took on Highlanders, the same team the club dramtically defeated on Opening Night in 2022 and 2023.

But in 2024, Highlanders clearly wanted put end to that trend.

A beautiful night and great turnout at Nott Road, saw Spindles struggle to create clear chances.

Highlanders opened the scoring early within the first 15 minutes.

No matter what the Spins tried, the opposition shut it down.

A bleak first half left Spindles with nothing to lose in the second.

They entered the second half with more intensity, hoping to level the match.

However, a high line in attack left Spindles exposed yet again as Highlanders punished them, 2-0, 75'.

Despite a poor performace, Spindles still pushed for a site on goal.

Late in the match, John Locicero was brought down in the box and won a penalty which he calmly converted. 2-1, 85'.

But the push for goal was too little, and too late. Leaving Spindles with an early season blow.

The guys will have more than a week to bounce back and prepare for Rascals for Matchweek 3 on Thursday, May 23 at 8PM.
